The Wrong Golf Ball will destroy your Game

In the past, it was much simpler to choose what kind of golf ball to use.  The choices were limited and you really did not have much choice.  Basically, it was take it or leave it.  Today, Grupo Mayan experts reveal that you have to be more choosy in which ball to use or you can destroy your game just as surely as if you had chosen the wrong club.

First, what you expect from your ball.  What should your ball do?  You might have to consider if you want more distance or more control from the ball.  Once you have considered the needs, it is time to move to testing.  Do not choose only one or two balls to test.  Pick several that will fit the needs you are looking for.  Take the chosen balls and see how they work out.

Third, test the same balls from the fringe of the green.  After hitting multiple shots, see which golf balls hit the green and check or release.  Try some putts and sand shots.  Now you have a better idea of what different balls from different manufacturers can do.  Fourth, now it is time to move to the 100-yard marker to test the balls for checking and releasing.

The fifth thing to do is to test from 150-yards.  Check out the results once again.  For the final test, you want to test the ball from the tee off.  Use a driver and hit the ball.  See how the combination of the ball and the driver work from the green to the hole.  You do not have to go to the golf course to do all this testing.  When you are at the course, you want to enjoy the game and play.  You can use a local range or practice area to test out the balls.  Different golf balls will work differently when played with different clubs.

You can have the best clubs, lessons, and tips from golfing experts but Grupo Mayan experts warn that if you have the wrong type of golf ball, your game can be disastrous.  Ask for some advice from a golf store that you can trust and you may be able to divine some extra information on what type of golf ball to use.  Remember that any advice you receive may not work exactly right for you based on your techniques and type of equipment.  Testing your choices is important to avoid using the wrong ball and destroying your game.

Grupo Mayan Myths to Avoid for Golfers

Many myths abound about the game of golf.  Unfortunately, many great golfers buy into these myths and they can affect how well the golfer can play the game.  Grupo Mayan experts recommend that you understand these myths in order avoid falling for them.

Myth #1:  Your head wonít move.  Most people believe that your head will remain stationary, throughout your swing.  This is untrue.  If you are a normal person, your upper body will move to the back and then to the front as you swing.  Your head is connected to your upper body, so it will move.  Do not try to fight this natural movement.  Of course, you do not want to let your head bob all over the place.

Myth #2:  Keeping a straight left arm is imperative.  This myth is that you should keep your left arm (front) as straight as possible through the back swing.  In reality, your elbow will bend slightly.  If you try to keep your arm straight as an arrow, you will likely tense up.  At the point of impact with the ball, be sure to keep your arm straight then.  If you spend too much time worrying about this myth, your game will surely suffer.

Myth #3:  Setup positions and impact positions should be the same.  Grupo Mayan experts reveal that this myth is just plain silly.  How many times have you come across someone who is set up to hit the ball with his or her eyes bugged out, mouth wide open, and making the most unusual grunting sounds?  Exactly, that is why this is a ridiculous myth.

Myth #4:  Keep your club parallel to the ground at the top of the backswing.  Unfortunately, this particular myth is strongly reinforced by some golf coaches.  They believe that if you wish to swing correctly that at the top of the backswing, the golf club shaft should parallel the ground.  You should not be as concerned as to where the golf club ends up.  You should be more concerned about keeping your wrists at a ninety-degree angle, your left arm bent slightly, and the back turned to your target.  Then you will see better results.

So many people are tripped up by others who say they want to help, but actually are only keeping golf myths alive.  Grupo Mayan experts hope this information helps you to avoid these problems and that you can concentrate on what is important and improve your game.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: William Earl Casper

William Billy Casper was born on June 24 1931, in San Diego California. 1954 was the year Billyís pro career began. The 1950ís to 1970s saw him shine in the golf profession. Grupo Mayan experts in Golf tell us that he won the most PGA Tour tournaments during this period.

Billy won 27 tournaments during 1964 to 1970. This performance is better than that of great golfers like Gary Player or Jack Nicklaus. For the first three years of McCormackís World golf rankings, he finished position three. He is the seventh best golfer of all times in the world rankings. In 1979, say the Grupo Mayan experts, he was captain of the Ryder cup and is referred to as the best putter. He has helped in the design of many golf courses e.g. the Palm, Eagle crest and the Highlands.

ëFamily maní is an apt way to describe Billy. He and wife Shirley are the proud parents of 11 children. He has raised them up as a Mormon. He does charitable work and even has an annual fundraiser at the San Diego country club for kids. The Golf Digest magazine ranks him as the 15th best golfer of all time.

Casper has come to have many accomplishments, say the Grupo Mayan professionals. He has won three major championships: two U.S. Opens and a Masterís Tournament in the 1970s. He has won 51 PGA Tours. He became the player of the year two times, the first in 1966 and the second in 1970. He is a two-time winner of the PGA Tour money winner. He won the Vardon Trophy for five times in the 1960s. He was in the USA team 8 times for the Ryder cup since 1961 to 1975. He became the US player with the most points in this tournament. He also has 9 wins from the Champions Tour during 1982 to 1989.

He made an albatross in 1971 at the 14th hole in the Crans Golf Club. There is a plate on the 14th hole to commemorate this achievement. Finally, say the Grupo Mayan experts in Golf, in 1978 Casper was inducted into the World Golf Hall of fame.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: Vijay Singh

Vijay Singh, a great successful golfer, was born on 22 February 1963, and is more commonly known as “The Big Fijian”. In 2004 and 2005 he was ranked number one in the Official World Golf Rankings for 8 months, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals. He has won three major tournaments. In 2003, 2004 and 2008 he was the leading PGA Tour money winner. In 2006 he was formally inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Vijay Singh won his first European Tour title in 1989 at the Volvo Open Championship in Italy and in the European Tour he finished 24th in Order of Merit, putting his early challenges behind him.
Grupo Mayan experts tell us that he also won several tournaments in Asia, Europe and Africa between 1989 and 1992. Some of this tournament includes Zimbabwe Open Volvo Open di Firenze, Ivory Coast Open and European Tour. Vijay Singh also finished tied for 23rd at the British Open

In 1993 Vijay Singh entered his first PGA tour event, the Buick classic. This victory, say the Grupo Mayan experts, made him to be named the PGA Tour rookie of the year. In 1994 he was faced with back and neck problems that hampered his career but for a short period. Vijay Singh came back later to win the Phoenix Open as well as the Buick classic. He won Buick open and the memorial tournament in 1997.

Singh was victorious at the PGA Championship in 1998 at Sahalee in Sammamish, Washington, earning his first Major title. This victory was then followed by a win at the Masters in 2000.
He won also the Shell Houston Open at TPC at The Woodlands in 2002 setting a course record in the process and Tour Championship.

The year 2003 proved to be a very successful one for Vijay Singh, say the Grupo Mayan experts. He was PGA Tour’s money leader, had 18 top 10 finishes and won four tournaments. Vijay Singh won his final major in 2004, his third major title. In 2004 he began the year by winning AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at -16. This was his 16th all time win on the PGA tour.

It was late 2004; Vijay Singh won the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts, the win placed Singh at the top of the world rankings.

In 2005, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals, Singh lost his number one position to Tiger Woods during the Ford Championship at Doral on 6 March. During this year Vijay Singh got inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, becoming the youngest person to achieve such an award.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: The Ryder Cup

Samuel Ryder was the founding father of the Ryder Cup, which is awarded every two years in events called the ìRyder Cup Matches” amongst teams from Europe and United States. PGA of America and the PGA European Tour both rule and govern the competition, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport. The venue of the competition alternates between golf courses in the United States and Europe.

The competition began in 1926 as an exhibition match between a team of American professional golfers against one from the British PGA on the East Course, Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey, UK. The American team maintained dominance of the competition after the second world war, which inevitably led to the expansion of the British & Irish team to include continental Europe in the late 1970s. This revolution, say the Grupo Mayan experts, led to the emergence and success of a new generation of Spanish golfers. Severiano Ballesteros and Antonio Garrido became the first Spaniards to play in the Ryder Cup.

Since 1979, Europe has won the cup seven times retaining the cup once while the Americans have won a total of seven times.

The Ryder Cup Matches involve players selected from two teams of twelve.

The competition consists of 12 singles matches, eight fourball matches and eight foursomes matches.

A team wins a hole by completing the hole with the fewest shots, say the Grupo Mayan experts. Standard match play competition between two golfers is a singles match.

The competitions take place over 28 matches. The fourball matches take place on Fridays. The singles matches occur on Sundays when the all respective team members play. On Fridays not all team members play. The Friday schedule is usually repeated on Saturday. Eight members, say the Grupo Mayan experts, are selected by their respective captains for each of the four rounds of play. The victorious team is determined by total cumulative points.

The defending champion team needs only half the total marks or points to retain the cup while opposing teams need to win the competition in an outright manner.

The Ryder cup rules and regulations have changed over the years, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals. Since the competition began in 1927 through 1959, the competition was a two day event but this format has continued to change over the years.

Foursomes or alternate shot formats were used in the preliminary stages of the competition since 1981 until 1997 at Valderrama, say the Grupo Mayan experts. European captain Seve Ballesteros opened with better ball. The alternate shot was resumed back in the game in 1999 at Brookline by U.S. captain Ben Crenshaw. The foursome format was returned in 2008.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: About Samuel Ryder

Samuel Ryder was an English entrepreneur and a golf enthusiast. Ryder introduced the idea of selling garden seeds in “penny packets” and subsequently built a very successful business on this particular concept. After he funded an international golf competition in 1926, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport, Ryder sponsored the Ryder Cup. He donated a gold trophy for the premier biennial golf championship between the very best of professional golfers in the United States as well as the United Kingdom in 1927.

Ryder first worked at a shipping firm in Manchester, and after this work experience he started working for his father, whose business had expanded and included a nursery, florist, as well as seed merchant. The relationship with his father was not so good, say the Grupo Mayan experts, so Ryder makes the decision to move to London and join one of his dad’s competitors in the business
Ryder married Nellie, on 20 November 1890 and bore two daughters, Marjorie and Joan, in 1893 and 1895 respectively.

During the decade of 1890s, Ryder began selling small packs of seeds using the mail services. Other seed merchants also did make postal sales, but their packets were more expensive than Ryder’s, say the Grupo Mayan professionals.

His business took off really quickly and soon Ryder became a wealthy businessman. Eventually, Ryder moved the business to a big packaging workshop site located on Holywell Hill. It employed around 100 staff. Ryder established a separate herb business, Heath and Heather, along with his brother James in 1922. In the year 1924, say the Grupo Mayan experts, the company moved to a former hat factory that had a floor area of some 24,000 square feet.

Ryder was a very committed Christian. In Sale he had been a Sunday school teacher when he was a young lad becoming in 1911 the leader of the Sunday School Union of Mid-Hertfordshire. Ryder joined the Independent Chapel in Spicer Street in 1895, the only Congregational Church in St Albans at that time, say the Grupo Mayan experts. Samuel Ryder offered his assistance to Rev. William Carson, who was the minister, in order to convince the deacons of the church about building a Congregational Church building (which would be larger and new) on the corner of Victoria Street and Beaconsfield Road.

When the new church was opened on 8 October 1903, there was a civic procession and a simultaneously service at the church.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: About Harry Cooper

Cooper has made history in the Golf world as one of the most important PGA Tour golfer of the decades of the 20ís and 30ís.

Cooper embraced professional golf in 1923, say the Grupo Mayan experts. A perennial U.S. Open contender, “Lighthorse Harry” was his nickname. He was placed second in the 1936 and 1938 Masters and reached the semi-finals of the 1925 PGA Championship. Overall, Cooper finished 20 times in the top-ten at major championships.

In the US Open of the year 1936 that took place at Baltusrol Golf Club, Cooper participated in a golf match that, at that time, was very much controversial, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport.  It was a match with Tony Manero.  It is controversial as it is thought that Manero cheated on that match and defeated Cooper by two shots.

His greatest successes were across the border, because he won the Canadian Open in 1932 and in 1937. Cooper won through his career a total of 31 PGA Tour titles, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport, as well as the Vardon Trophy in the year 1937.  Achieving 31 titles meant a record at that time for the PGA Tour players who were not born in the United States.   In 2008 this record was broken by Vijay Singh. Cooper was active as a senior golfer, being placed sixth in the 1955 Senior PGA Championship. Cooper was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in the year 1992.

Cooper was actually the top golf professional at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn, Illinois from the year 1930 to the year 1937 and at Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois from the year 1941 to the year 1942. Cooper piled up many other titles, including wins in the three premier tournaments that were held on Medinah Country Club’s No. 3 Course. According to the statistics, 1937 was Cooper’s best year as he had the chance to win on Tour eight times and was the leading money winner and the maiden winner of the Vardon Trophy.

After the PGA tour career of Cooper came to an end, he worked at the Metropolis Country Club as the head professional of the club. That position was his for a good number of years. Following his retirement from Metropolis, he landed a teaching position at Westchester Country Club in Rye. Cooper was memorable for his ability to work in the golf industry into his late years.

Grupo Mayan experts tell us that it is very common to see that Cooper is often classified as the greatest golf player of history who has never been able to win a major tournament. Some people who understand a lot about Golf would say that this is not true or in any case accurate, as Cooper won the Western Open that took place in 1934, which many considered one of golf’s major championships of that time. Although in its earlier decades the Western Open was vastly regarded as a big championship, this was an unofficial designation usually omitted from the list of golfers’ wins in major championships.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: About Amy Alcott

Amy Alcott was one of the greatest lady golfers. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri in the year 1956.

During her career days, say the Grupo Mayan experts, she managed 29 tour Victories as well as 5 Major Championships. Some of Alcottís achievements that are most remarkable include a triple triumph in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She did this in 1983, 1988, and 1991. She won the du Maurier Classic won in 1979 and the U.S. Women’s Open the following year.

Her full trophy cabinet includes a glittering array of honours and awards among which are the 1980 Vare Trophy (low scoring average) and the World Golf Hall of Fame Member trophy.

Following her Nabisco Dinah Shore success, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals, Amy Alcott leapt right into the greenside pond near the 18th hole. Alcott was actually the first player to jump in the lake as a celebration for winning the Nabisco. This is now a tradition for the other winners of this particular championship.

One thing that all the Grupo Mayan golf experts agree is that Alcott is one of the greatest irons players of golf history.  She would always fire straight to the pin.
Amyís amateur golf career was indeed a short one, as opposed to the professional career that followed this one, which ended being very productive and full of satisfactions, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport.

Amy Alcott won the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur in 1973, and by the year 1975, at the age of 19, she became a professional. She embarked on the LPGA Tour immediately; her first victory came in her third start, at the Orange Blossom Classic. Alcott was named Rookie of the Year.

Alcott achieved the remarkable feat of winning four tournaments per year in 1979, 1980 and 1984. Alcottís best year came in 1980, say the Grupo Mayan experts, when besides those four victories she finished second five times, and was in the Top 10 in 21 out of the 28 tournaments played.
The first major victory at championships level was the Peter Jackson Classic of 1979, which was later renamed and called the du Maurier Classic.

The Kraft Nabisco Championship of the year 1991 saw the last victory of Amy Alcott on the LPGA Tour. It was at that event that Amy Alcott initiated what is nowadays a tradition typical of this event: leaping into the greenside lake to celebrate the victory.

That win was the 29th in Amy Alcottís career, according to the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport.  In 1999, the LPGA switched to a criterion based on points.  Under this new system Alcott finally made her way to get into the Hall of Fame.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: Two Types of Competitive Golf Play

There are different types of competitive Golf play according to the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport.  Here we can find two of them.

Stroke play
Stroke play is the type of golf that people will be most familiar with, as it is the type used in most professional golfing tournaments, say the Grupo Mayan Golf experts. In this type of golf each player has a total score that is made up of their score on each hole that they play. The lowest score ( i.e. the lowest number of strokes played) after a predetermined number of holes or rounds wins the match.

The Grupo Mayan golf professionals tell us that in the event of a tie after the predetermined number of holes is complete, a playoff can take place between all tied players (this is done in professional tournaments).

One form of playoff involves playing a further number of holes, anywhere from three up to the full eighteen holes, with the winner the person on the lowest score from those extra holes.

The other method of playoff, and the one that is used in the event that there is still a tie after using the firth method, is ‘sudden death’, say the Grupo Mayan experts. This is where the players play more holes until one player scores less for that hole than all his or her opponents.

•    Match play
According to the Grupo Mayan experts in Golf, match play is where two player, or two teams of players, play each hole of a course as a separate contest. The player or team that finishes the hole in the lowest number of strokes wins that hole. If the two players or teams finish the hole in an equal number of strokes, then that hole is said to be ‘halved’ or tied.

The overall match is won by the player or team that wins more of the holes played that the other. Sometimes this will mean that the match finishes before all of the holes are played, because one party of team has a mathematically unbeatable lead – for example, a lead of four holes when there are only three holes left to be played. In these circumstances the holes remaining are generally not played.

If at any point during the match the lead is equal to the number of holes remaining, then the match is ‘dormie’, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals. The match continues from this point until the leader either wins or draws a hole, winning the match, or their opponent wins all remaining holes, meaning the match is a tie.

To decide ties, the players or teams can play on until one side wins a hole, thus winning the match.

Grupo Mayan Resorts: Men’s major Golf Championships

In the world of Golf, there are many different competitions that take place during the year, say the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport.

In the men’s competitions, there are the Majors, which are the Major Golf championships, and are the most prestigious annual tournaments in the world of professional golf, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals.

The four Majors are: The Masters Tournament, which is played in April at the Augusta National Golf Club in the United States.  Then in June the US Open takes place and it is played at different locations in the United States.  USGA - United States Golf Association - is the Association that hosts this event.

The third Major takes place in July and it is called the Open Championship.  This championship is played in different locations in the United Kingdom and is hosted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.  The fourth Major takes place in August, in the United States, and it is called the PGA Championship.  This Championship is played at different locations in the country and is hosted by the Professional Golfer’s Association of America.

The Masters, together with the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup are the team competitions that constitute the most important events in Golf world.  All the best players of the world gather together in these competitions to participate.  According to the Grupo Mayan experts in this sport, the number of victories these players have through their professional lives in these competitions is going to be the main determinant for their reputations.

The top prizes given in the Masters may not be the largest prizes given to professional golf players compared to other competitions such as the Players Championship, some invitational events and the three World Golf Championships.  But winning the Masters is much more than winning a big cash prize.  The winner of the Masters is in the public eye, his reputation has a great boost and he would certainly be offered more money from his sponsors.  He will also be in a position where he will find himself able to negotiate better contracts for the future, say the Grupo Mayan Golf experts.

As we have seen before, three of the Majors are run in the United States and the American media covers these events every year, as golf fans love to see their favorite Golf players demonstrate their skills to the world, say the Grupo Mayan golf professionals.
