Grupo Mayan Resorts: Pat Bradley
Who is the only woman golfer to win three of the four major LPGA events in one season? According to the Grupo Mayan golf pros Pat Bradley achieved this feat in 1986 and her record remains unbroken. She is also one of the highest moneymakers in LPGA history, breaking records with her winnings during several different seasons.
Pat Bradley began golfing at the young age of 11. With her family´s support she won several amateur events in the New England area before attending college. In the early 1970´s, say the Grupo Mayan golf pros, Bradley traveled from her home state of New Hampshire to play collegiate level golf for Florida International University. During her college golfing career she was named an All American player, one of the top titles at this level of play.
After finishing college, in 1974, Pat Bradley signed on with the LPGA. The Grupo Mayan golf experts tell us she played in LPGA events for two years before her first title in 1976. This win brought her worldwide attention and launched her golfing career.
The Grupo Mayan golf pros say Bradley´s fan base continued to grow as she continued to win events and titles. She truly shined during the late 1970´s and early 1980´s, winning many events and titles. Her many wins included the LPGA Open in 1981 and several other major LPGA golfing tournaments.
Bradley will always be remembered for the year she made history, say the Grupo Mayan pros. In 1986 Pat Bradley went in the record books after winning three of the four major LPGA events in this one season. She took first place honors at the du Maurier Classic, the Kraft Nabisco Classic, and the LPGA Championship tournament. Keeping her from a grand slam was her fifth place finish in the LPGA Open. The Grupo Mayan pros tell us that Bradley was also named the top moneymaker for the year and won as the LPGA´s lowest scorer of the year.
Pat Bradley continued to win event after event. Even when not winning, say the Grupo Mayan pros, she placed in the top five in almost every tournament. Sadly, in 1988 Pat Bradley fell victim to a serious condition known as Graves Disease. With dedication, drive, medical support, and the support of her fans Bradley continued to play competitively on the LPGA circuit. It was a difficult year for Bradley who posted no major wins.
1989, say the Grupo Mayan golf pros, saw a rejuvenated Bradley win one major title and the following year she rose to the top three times. As her health improved her game improved. By 1991 she was once again in top form, winning four major titles. She also earned the LPGA Player of the Year award for the 1991 tournament season.
The Grupo Mayan pros tell an interesting story about Pat Bradley and her spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame. Her display at the LPGA Hall of Fame includes a brass cowbell. While this may seem an odd object for a golf display there is a story behind the cowbell. According to the Grupo Mayan pros, every time Bradley won an event or title her mother walked to her back porch in New Hampshire and rang this cow bell in celebration. The LPGA Hall of Fame allows Bradley´s fans to continue to celebrate her successful career.
